Description
My aunt used to “accidentally” make triple batches of these, claiming they were for the neighbors. They never left the house. These bites are golden, cheesy, and somehow both crunchy and gooey at the same time. Basically magic.
Ingredients
🧅 2 large yellow onions
🧀 100g shredded cheese (kačkavalj or cheddar)
🥚 2 eggs
🥄 4 tbsp flour
🧂 Salt to taste
🌶️ A pinch of paprika or chili flakes (optional)
🫒 Oil for frying
Preparation
1️⃣ Peel onions and cut into thick rings. Separate into “donut” shapes.
2️⃣ In a bowl, mix cheese, eggs, flour, salt, and paprika into a sticky batter.
3️⃣ Fill each onion ring with batter – pack it in like you mean it.
4️⃣ Heat oil in a pan. Fry each filled ring until golden and crispy, about 2–3 min per side.
5️⃣ Drain on paper towels. Serve hot while still melty inside.
